Sora's heart couldn't possibly chain itself to another person right? Well that would be where a person is wrong.
When Neku and the group finally were able to leave Traverse Town and return to Shibuya, they found two things. One: Neku was holding a new pin, one with a peculiar Heart shaped symbol.
"Great another weird pin."
That was what he figured but as it turned out he would soon need it, as they discovered the second problem.
The mission counter for defeating Spellican was still ticking. They had faith in Riku and Sora that it would be dealt with, unfortunately they got nervous as the clock ticked closer.
They decided to solve the overall problem of the Reaper that had assigned the mission- Sho Minamimoto (who was the Game Master for week 1 in this instance, thus the reason it was hard enough to push them all into Traverse Town in the first place from failing their battles with Taboo Noise).
When they managed to find him they had at least ten minutes left to go, plenty of time to beat him, but another problem arose in that the Spellican, on its last legs, had somehow escaped into the UnderGround, and was now being controlled by Sho. He had manipulated its form and turned it into one of his Taboo Noise.
When the Spellican attacked, and summoned a horde of noise to surround Neku, Shiki, Beat, and Rhymme, the pin that Neku gained burst forth with a bright light, blowing away the Taboo Noise, and dazing Sho and the Spellican. A voice spoke in Neku's head to grab the keyblade that spawned from the light and destroy the darkness before him.
Neku reached out and grabbed onto his Keyblade the Skull Noise. This also managed to generate a spectral version of the blade to Shiki and together they managed to vanquish the Spellican. Sho, intrigued by the power of the keyblade immediately attacked the group, but was overwhelmed by the energy and exploded when delivered the finishing blow. However this was in fact a Level i Flare he had set up in advance to trigger with his defeat. Joshua was about to interfere to save Neku, but a set of barriers generated from the keyblade and defended them all from the explosion.
This many survivors of course was not an expectation of the Reapers game. And put a dent into the Composer's side. The keyblade was noteable a game breaker and a game changer, so he decided to fore go Noise and send Reapers directly at the Players, with only one mission set upon them- and a shift in the rules. They had three weeks to find and beat the Conductor if they wanted to win.
It was a hard fight as to be expected, so Joshua countered by interfering in the form of connecting Shiki's heart to another's as well (Kairi's), and providing her with an actual Keyblade. He also sprinkled pins through out the game that would power up the keys. His interference was eventually caught onto by the revived Taboo powered Sho, who was not just empowered by Taboo but also the energies of Darkness. He had become, essentially, a Heartless.
Neku and the group were overpowered in Neku's absence and nearly defeated, but at that point a new power broke into the UG, a hooded figure holding a player pin. After the person pushed the Reapers Officers away, and gave Neku the time to recover, he revealed himself to be one of Xehanort's alternate selves. Being wary of their experiences in Traverse Town, they didn't take his aide as something they wanted. Which was a wise decision, since his plan was to use Neku to fill the seat they could not with Sora. He attempted to grab Neku and pull him away from the UG, but was intercepted by Joshua (managing to pull away from Sho) wielding a pearl white copy of the Kingdom Key. Seeing this was another fruitless endeaver, the black coat tried to leave, but before doing so he opened they keyhole of Shibuya, allowing Darkness and Heartless to flood in.
Sho took advantage of the Darkness and managed to allow it to take hold of the other Reapers. Though making them stronger they also were given that weakness to the light, as Neku and Shiki grew in ability to wield it over the days. They freed the Reapers of the Darkness, while Joshua eliminated Sho entirely from the world of Shibuya.
When Neku and the others finally found the the Black Coat and the Conductor, who had been strapped into a large Heartless, that was pumping Darkness into him, connecting into him. At this point, before the final confrontation, he explained his own deal with Joshua. How Joshua was the Composer and had whimmed about destroying Shibuya, while the Conductor, Kitaniji, wanted to keep it whole. However he admitted he rather it be destroyed than turned into the perverse state being swallowed by Darkness.
Joshua appeared before Neku and the others, confirming he was the Composer, however he also admitted that now he didn't plan to destroy Shibuya anymore. The Game had completely broken down, and made it unfair to both sides no matter how much he tried to make it challenging but fair. Also the fact it had made Shibuya interesting again. Knowing the plans of Xehanort he was also disgusted that the black coat would want to steal his Proxy and so aided Neku in the final battle.
Together Neku, Shiki, and Joshua managed to destroy the Heartless and allow Kitaniji to rest at peace. However the black coat managed to escape and left the group to finish up with the job. Joshua admitted he was not a real keyblade wielder, having only used his powers as Composer to create one for himself, but knew the meaning behind it. Before everyone was returned to their lives he instructed Neku and Shiki on how to seal the keyhole to prevent Shibuya being overwhelmed by the Darkness.
Neku and everyone returned to their lives as they should, however Neku and Shiki still had the small issue of having their hearts connected to others, a problem that needed to be solved. They asked Joshua for his help since he was that powerful Composer after all, but he didn't seem able to sever the chains, even the one he set himself. Determined to fix this they set out to other worlds with Joshua's help, on what would be a long journey to find their friends, Sora and Riku, again, to set them free.
